On 12 November, it was that time again: 30 students with a refugee or migrant background were awarded the Hamburg Scholarship in a festive setting. Studierendenwerk Hamburg invited the new scholarship holders and supporters to its own pizzeria for canapés and pizza to celebrate. Sven Lorenz, Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk, Ian Karan, former Senator for Economics and patron of the Hamburg Scholarship, and Parica Partoshoar, spokesperson for the Hamburg Integration Advisory Board, addressed the new scholarship holders and gave the students a few tips along the way. In addition to the greetings and presentations from supporters of the Hamburg Scholarship, the celebration also provided an opportunity for the scholarship holders to get to know each other and make initial contacts with the sponsors. The evening ended with delicious drinks and crispy pizza.
“We are delighted to support 30 impressive young talents who stand out for their academic and personal abilities with the Hamburg Scholarship. The award also recognises their social commitment. As members of our scholarship holder network, the sponsored students also benefit from the opportunity to take part in events and make contacts with potential employers in Hamburg.” Sven Lorenz, Managing Director of Studierendenwerk Hamburg
“The Hamburg Scholarship has impressive potential on several levels: It offers a personal and social dimension that contributes to the personal development of the scholarship holders, creates educational opportunities and has a positive impact on their personal lives. At the same time, its economic dimension opens up the opportunity for Hamburg companies to retain exceptionally committed talent, especially in times of a shortage of skilled labour.” Ian Karan, former Senator for Economics and patron of the Hamburg Scholarship
“The Hamburg Scholarship promotes intercultural interaction and stands for appreciation and respect. Through the contacts of the scholarship holder network, students can, for example, write their Bachelor's or Master's thesis and find mentors, and in the best-case scenario, they also find a job. There should be more sponsors who support students in this way: They stand for the future of committed students and also ensure highly qualified young talent in their companies.” Parica Partoshoar, spokesperson for the Hamburg Integration Advisory Board
