We mourn the loss of Prof Dr Rüdiger Martienß, Professor of Economics in the Department of Life Sciences at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, who has passed away at the age of 78.
Prof Dr Martienß had been a volunteer for the Studierendenwerk since 2000. He began his work as a member of the Studierendenwerk's Executive Board and was subsequently elected to the Supervisory Board on 26 October 2005 at the constituent meeting of the Representatives' Assembly chaired by Prof. Fischer.
At the constituent meeting of the Supervisory Board on 7 November 2005, Prof. Dr Martienß was unanimously elected Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Prof. Dr Martienß held this position until his departure from the Supervisory Board on 2 July 2014. Prof Dr Martienß has thus experienced three Managing Directors as a member of the Board: Manfred Klee until 2001, Dr Ulrike Pfannes until 2007 and Jürgen Allemeyer since 2007.
Prof Dr Martienß was also a member of the selection committee for the Fritz Prosiegel Scholarship.
Until his death, Prof Dr Martienß was closely associated with the Studierendenwerk Hamburg as a member of the Friends' Association.
We would like to thank Prof Dr Martienß for his valuable commitment to the Studierendenwerk and will remember him as a positive, appreciative and extremely approachable person.
Our sincere sympathy goes out to his family and friends!
