For the second time, the Studierendenwerk Hamburg has been recognised by DEHOGA Germany as a "TOP training company" for the quality of its training in university catering. With the "TOP Training Company" initiative, DEHOGA defines uniform standards for outstanding training throughout Germany. TOP training companies commit to 12 strong guiding principles for high-quality training, such as an appropriate orientation phase and familiarisation period, the promotion of participation in job-related projects, competitions and training courses or the appreciation of the personality and performance of the trainees.

Since 2010, Studierendenwerk Hamburg has been providing training in university catering in the professions of kitchen specialist (currently 4 trainees) and system catering specialist (currently 1 trainee). The 12 canteens, 19 cafés and two pizzerias of the Studierendenwerk Hamburg provide Hamburg students with tasty, innovative and reasonably priced catering services and welcome more than 15,000 guests every day.

The application phase for the start of training on 1 August 2024 is already underway, and those interested can still apply for the apprenticeships of kitchen specialist and system catering specialist.
