Successfully studying, meanwhile starting a family and raising a child, is in many ways a special challenge - but also an opportunity. In this situation, securing the financing of living expenses and finding a reasonably priced apartment in an environment suitable for children often presents single mothers with major problems. This is where we want to help, together with the "Stiftung zur Förderung von Studentinnen in Hamburg".
Single, student mothers can now apply for especially affordable apartments for themselves and their child(ren) in the Studierendenwerk's housing complexes. Our housing offers affordable rents and are located in a child-friendly environment for living with your own offspring. In addition, there is a network of other students who can support and help each other. Starting in the winter semester of 2018, individual 2-person apartments in our housing complexes that are suitable for female students with child/ren will be additionally subsidized by the Foundation and rented at a lower price for student mothers. If the application is successful, female students can save monthly rental costs of €100.
This is made possible by the Foundation for the Promotion of Female Students in Hamburg, which we thank very much for this! The foundation has been supporting female students in Hamburg since 1957 and was itself the operator of female student housing for many years. Now that the housing managed by the Foundation has been discontinued, it is making funds available to the Studierendenwerk to continue to support female students in Hamburg in this way. Only individual places are subsidized, which are advertised here for applications. Female students with children who are enrolled at a university for which the Studierendenwerk is responsible* can apply using the following documents:
*Universität Hamburg, Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg, HafenCity Universität, Technische Universität Hamburg, Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Bucerius Law School
You can find the application form and the guidelines for the award under the following buttons (only in German).
