At a formal award ceremony, the Studierendenwerk Hamburg presented the Hamburg Scholarship to 25 students. The programme supports students with a refugee or migrant background for one year with a monthly grant of 200 euros and helps to promote equal opportunities in education.
This year’s scholarship recipients are studying at various universities in Hamburg and across a range of disciplines. Many of them are also actively involved in the community and contribute their experiences and perspectives to urban society.
Tina Scheliga, acting managing director of the Studierendenwerk Hamburg, emphasises:
“The Hamburg Scholarship demonstrates what is possible when support and commitment come together. The 25 students we are honouring this year have different backgrounds and are studying a wide variety of subjects – they all bring skills and perspectives that enrich our city. With this scholarship, we aim not only to provide them with financial support, but also to open doors: for networking and for their future paths in Hamburg.”
As well as financial support, scholarship recipients benefit from a network for exchanging ideas and from contacts with potential employers in Hamburg. The Hamburg Scholarship was launched in 2018 and, with this year’s awards, is now entering its seventh round of funding. The programme is made possible by the support of companies, foundations and private individuals.
