Application information for international students
Your room in Hamburg

In the 26 houses of the Studierendenwerk Hamburg, up to 50% of the accommodation is available for international students. The proportion of international students at Hamburg's universities is ten percent. Due to the high demand for student housing, you must be prepared for waiting times.

Students who are enrolled at one of Hamburg's state-run universities are eligible for housing, as are visitors to the state-run Studienkolleg and Zentralkolleg, the Conservatory in Blankenese and Bucerius Law School. You can apply for a place to live online.

Contingents for short stays

Many students who are only in Hamburg for a short time as part of an exchange program such as "Erasmus" or "Socrates" can obtain a place to live directly. The Studierendenwerk provides the respective university a quota for this purpose.

For further information and to apply, please contact your coordinator in the host or home country or the International Office of the university responsible for you. You can find the International Offices or contact persons of the Hamburg universities on the respective pages:

Welcome Tutors Program
For a good start in Hamburg

The Welcome Tutor Program and its team of tutors aim to make it easier for international students to get started in Hamburg, to support their integration in the residential complexes and to promote dialogue between international and German students.

The tutors support international students on the first day of move-in, are already approachable before arrival and are always contact persons in the housing complex.
