In the MOPO team relay race, colleagues have passed the baton to each other in recent years - in 2024, motivated colleagues from the Studierendenwerk competed as a group in the HafenCity Run to enjoy the view of the harbour and (for those with enough breath) to chat. Together, the participants embarked on a sporting journey of discovery through Hamburg's HafenCity, without any pressure to perform or timekeeping. The focus was on charity, a sense of community and fun. Participation supported the charitable projects of Hamburger Abendblatt hilft e.V.. In the previous year, 430 teams and more than 14,000 runners raised around 80,000 euros in donations, which were used to support 13 social projects in Hamburg and the metropolitan region.

At Studierendenwerk, we want new colleagues to quickly feel comfortable and at home with us. One part of our activities to get the ‘newcomers’ on board is the Talkwalk.

During our Talkwalk, various areas of the Studierendenwerk are visited on a walk. The new employees gain an insight into a daycare centre, a canteen and a student residence. As all participants come from different departments, there is also plenty of opportunity to chat.

In this way, they learn from each other what the others do on a daily basis in the other departments and gain an understanding of the challenges faced by the other teams.
 

Our after-work events offer our employees the opportunity to socialise across departments, get to know each other better or for the first time and simply get together outside of the working environment - because sometimes our teams can't get enough of each other after work.

A meeting in the French bistro just around the corner from the Studierendenwerk or a meal at your favourite Italian restaurant - there's something for everyone. And as the Studierendenwerk is located in Von-Melle-Park within walking distance of the Alster and Planten un Blomen, people also like to meet up outside in the summer months.
