Studying with endometriosis

19. February 2025

Endometriosis is a common abdominal disease in women that is still not sufficiently recognised. Typical symptoms include recurring, fluctuating, often very severe abdominal pain. It often takes many years before endometriosis is diagnosed. Endometriosis is a chronic disease and can be recognised as a severe disability if it is very debilitating. It is only in recent years that women no longer simply accept the associated (physical) impairments. As the disease often has a negative impact on studies, female students are entitled to appropriate measures to compensate for disadvantages. The zeitbild UNI ‘Endo ... what???’ aims to sensitise teaching staff at universities and clinics as well as students and the general public throughout Germany to the topic of endometriosis. With a poster campaign at 200 highly frequented university locations, a digital magazine for students and a website, information and offers of help are made available to enable an informed and mindful approach to endometriosis. A student from Giessen shares her experiences with the disease in a podcast.
