Fellows Dive In - Insights at Hamburg Wasser

21. August 2025

On August 21, sixteen fellows of the Hamburg Stipendium had the opportunity to get to know one of our sponsors better: Hamburg Wasser.

We were warmly welcomed with snacks and refreshing drinks – naturally tap water in a variety of flavors. Following this, we received an introduction to the wide range of responsibilities Hamburg Wasser takes on, what makes the company an attractive employer, and which career opportunities are available for young professionals.

A particular highlight was the nearly two-hour guided tour through the WasserForum, Hamburg Wasser’s own museum. The visit took us on a journey through time: from the early days of centralized water supply in Hamburg, through the development of modern systems, and all the way to future-oriented concepts such as vacuum-based sanitation technologies. Along the way, we also learned more about water sourcing, usage, treatment, and wastewater management.

Beyond the professional insights, the afternoon also offered a valuable chance for personal exchange – both among the fellows and with representatives of Hamburg Wasser. This made the visit not only informative but also a truly engaging and communal experience.

Moments like these underline how important partnerships with local companies are for the Hamburg Stipendium: they provide fellows with added value beyond financial support by opening doors to internships, working student positions, and opportunities for academic theses in real-world contexts. At the same time, sponsors benefit from motivated and highly qualified young talents.

All in all, it was an insightful, inspiring, and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at Hamburg Wasser. We sincerely thank our hosts for the warm welcome and excellent organization!
