The Welcome Tutor Programme wants to make it easier for international students to get started in Hamburg. Our engaged tutors support integration in the residential complexes and promote intercultural exchange between international and German students.
The goal is to make international students feel welcome and in good hands right from the start. They are therefore available as contact persons even before they arrive and provide support directly on site on the day they move in.
They offer help with issues relating to living, studying and working. They are also there to help with language difficulties, dealing with the authorities and other issues.
In addition, the tutors regularly organise events to make it easier to arrive and get to know each other:
Whether at the welcome brunch, city tours, film evenings, language cafés or canoeing together - the events offer plenty of opportunities to make new contacts and discover Hamburg.
If you have any questions about the Welcome Tutor Programme, please contact: tutoren@stwhh.de.
The tutors offer office hours in the respective residence halls. Here you have the opportunity to get information and advice on the spot. The tutors can be reached via their e-mail address. International students can ask questions or make suggestions. The tutors are happy to receive any e-mail.
General questions about the tutoring programs can be asked by e-mail at any time.
Living together with students from different cultures is not always conflict-free. Some problems arise due to misunderstandings, others due to ignorance about the cultural backgrounds of flatmates or in stressful situations. In the event of intercultural conflicts, the tutors and the student self-governments offer assistance in cooperation with the Studierendenwerk Hamburg.
The Welcome Tutor Programme makes your start in Hamburg easier and promotes integration in the Studierendenwerk's student residences.
